I originally saw this scene in a travel
brochure back in 1986. I drew it in black and white and got published in
my high school's literary magazine. In 1987, I traveled to Germany and
visited this scene. I photographed it myself (using a low-quality
camera) and found a great photo book which pictured the site. Amazed
by this stroke of luck, I rerendered this scene as you see it here, in
colored pencil. It remains one of my favorites.
